Backed by the Motherland and connected to the world, Macao is a place where Chinese and Western cultures converge, serving as an important window and gateway for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to reach the world. The State and the Macao SAR Government have continuously introduced supportive policies to promote the inheritance, innovation, and development of TCM and the big health industry. Since its establishment, Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) has made Chinese medicine one of its key areas of development and has grown into the only higher education institution in Macao with a complete TCM curriculum system. The State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, established in 2011, was also the first State Key Laboratory in the field of Chinese medicine in China. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the Motherland, national leaders visited MUST and the State Key Laboratory, reflecting the country’s strong support for the development of TCM in Macao.
On the occasion of the 26th anniversary of MUST, and following the success of the inaugural forum, MUST will host the 2nd Macao Summit Forum on Modernization and Internationalization of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Plaque Unveiling Ceremony of the “Macao Wang Qi Academy” on 27 March 2026. The event aims to build a high-level international platform for exchange and cooperation in TCM, bringing together global wisdom and resources to discuss its inheritance, innovation, and international development.
The Wang Qi Academy, initiated by Professor Wang Qi, National Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine, was established in 2021 as a high-level talent cultivation platform supported by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. During the event, the plaque unveiling ceremony of the “Macao Wang Qi Academy” and the training programme for its inaugural cohort will also be held. Established under the auspices of MUST, the Macao Wang Qi Academy is the first Wang Qi Academy set up outside Mainland China, and will leverage Macao’s unique advantages to promote international cooperation, high-level talent cultivation, and the global development of TCM and big health.
The forum will feature keynote lectures by distinguished experts and scholars from Mainland China, Macao, and overseas, including Professor Wang Qi, National Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Beijing University of Chinese Medicine), Professor Gerhard Litscher (Swiss University of Traditional Chinese Medicine), Professor Baoyan Liu (China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences), Professor Dennis Chang (Western Sydney University), Professor Shaoping Li (University of Macau), and Professor Graça Soveral (University of Lisbon), who will share insights on the modernization, internationalization, and interdisciplinary development of TCM.
